Man Dies In Old South Fire

A 39-year-old man is dead after a fire in an Old South apartment building.

Firefighters were called to 140 Langarth St. early Tuesday morning for a report of a grass fire. When they arrived, the found a fire in the building. The blaze was confined to a first floor unit and had spread to the lawn when an air conditioner fell out of a window.

Firefighters found a man without vital signs. He was rushed to the London Health Sciences Centre where he was pronounced dead. His name has not yet been released.

Everyone else in the building was brought out safely. The Ontario Fire Marshall's office has been called in to investigate the cause of the fire.

Fire captain Al Brattz says some of the residents of the building were vulnerable, but the building wasn't listed that way with the fire department.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
