Car Set Ablaze At Downtown Dealership

A London man is facing an arson charge following a fire at a downtown London car dealership.

Police have now charged Mitchelle Smids, 24, with arson causing property damaged. He has been in custody since last night.

Officers were patrolling the area of York St. and Maitland when an officer noticed a car ablaze in the parking lot of Picadilly Motors.

Investigators believe the BMW was purposely set on fire.

A man and woman in the area were spotted by the officers on patrol and quickly arrested. The woman has since been released without conditions. Smids is being held in custody pending a court date.

"The damage was mainly to one vehicle, but two others were damaged as a result," Constable Ken Steeves tells BlackburnNews.com.

Damage is pegged at $24,000.
