CUPE And City Resume Bargaining

The union representing 750 striking inside city workers and City of London representatives are heading back to the bargaining table today.

Workers walked off the job on May 25, after the two sides failed to work out a last minute deal with the help of a mediator.

CUPE Local 101 has called the city's concession demands "ridiculous" while the city says its offer includes a wage increase in each of the four years in the contract for a total of 4.1%, and benefit increases. Some of the sticking points for the union include the city's wish to be able to schedule 9am-5pm workers for evening and weekend work, and to appoint who it wants to vacant positions, regardless of seniority.

CUPE 101 represents people who work in water and waste water administration, finance, traffic management, tourism, bylaw enforcement, and technical services.

Certain applications and building permits have been delayed as a result of the strike.

Workers can be seen picketing out front of City Hall of Dufferin Ave. and different city offices across London.
