London Man Falls Off Toronto Cruise Ship

Police in Toronto are searching Lake Ontario for the body of a 34-year-old London man who fell off a cruise ship over the weekend.

CP24 has identified the man as Keith White, pictured above.

According to police, he fell off the back of the 'Northern Spirit' around 7:40 on Saturday evening and disappeared into Lake Ontario, south of the Humber River.

Police now say it is no longer a search and rescue effort, but rather a body recovery.

“Keith was a very healthy fit man and was a certified lifeguard and we look forward to the investigation determining how his location in the water was lost so quickly in calm water in daylight,” says a statement from White's family, released to CP24 toay. “The anguish we feel right now is sharpened by a sense of mystery about how something like this could happen. We look forward to answers, and, if required, a commitment for change in the industry to ensure no other family has to endure this.”

The investigation is on-going as dive teams search the area.
