Environment Canada is warning of extreme heat over the weekend.

Temperatures are expected to soar to beyond the 30C mark on Saturday and Sunday, but it will feel more like 40C during peak afternoon hours.

Saturday night will be extremely warm with overnight temperatures only falling to 20C-23C.

The heat and humidity is expected to taper off on Monday, with forecasted highs in the upper 20s.

Officials recommend drinking plenty of water, wearing loose, light coloured clothing and never leaving people or pets inside parked cars. It is also recommended that everyone outdoors should avoid direct sunlight.

Meanwhile, both the Middlesex-London Health Unit and the Elgin-St. Thomas Health Unit have issued heat alerts.

People in the area are being asked to keep an eye out for young children, the elderly and the homeless.

If you need a spot to cool down the health units suggest visiting a local pool or splash pad.
