Perth OPP Investigate Mischief to Via Track in St. Marys

Perth County OPP are investigating after someone placed railroad ties on the tracks behind the Shur Gain plant in St. Marys.

Police say the Toronto to London Via passenger train carrying two coach cars hit the ties just after 2pm Sunday.

Fortunately the train did not derail, but there was minor damage to the engine. The train was able to continue its scheduled run after a minor delay.

Police say the dangerous act could have led to a train derailment, major damage, or injuries. It happened sometime between 8am and 2pm yesterday.

OPP are still investigating, and asking anyone who may have seen anything suspicious to call 1-888-310-1122. Should you wish to remain anonymous, you may call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), and you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
