Couple Escapes Suspicious House Fire

Police and the Ontario Fire Marshal are investigating after someone torched the front door and garage of a northeast London home.

Crews were called to a Basswood Rd. home around 2 Tuesday morning.

When fire fighters arrived they found two vehicles in the driveway had been set ablaze, as well as the garage and front door area of the two-storey detached home.

The couple living at the home tells BlackburnNews.com they awoke to their smoke alarm and flames blocking the front door. The two escaped out a side exit.

"They wanted us out or they wanted us dead," says the homeowner.

Investigators are saying very little, except that the fire is suspicious and there are several different points of origin.

"When it's suspicious the police are involved, the Fire Marshal's Office can be called in and they have been and we'll take it from there," says Fire Prevention Inspector Kyle Kieraszewicz.

Police have not said if there are any suspects in the case.

Damage is pegged at $150,000.
