Cabbies Rally Against Uber

The area in front of bandshell at Victoria Park was filled with taxis Wednesday, as drivers gathered to show their opposition to Uber.

Drivers representing all of London's cab companies converged on the park for a rally, hosted by the London Taxi Association.

Spokesman Roger Caranci says they want to convince city council of the serious threat posed by Uber to the livelihoods of the men and women who drive cabs in the city.

"It's a very big threat. When you have an entity that comes in and doesn't follow the rules and regulations that protect the people they want to serve, that's a big problem for the people who want to follow the rules," says Caranci.

Caranci points out London cabs are required to have cameras inside the car, more comprehensive insurance, and inspections. He says Uber vehicles don't have these things and that creates an unlevel playing field.

Last month a total of 18 drivers were hit with 29 fines when city by-law officials held a two day blitz targeting Uber and other internet run ride sharing programs.
