For the first time ever, those aged 65+ in Canada now outnumber those aged 0-14.
The most recent Statistics Canada report shows an aging population and a slowing in the birth rate.
Nearly one in six Canadians is at least 65 years old. Those 65+ account for 16.1% percent of the population, with that percentage expected to rise to 20.1% by 2024.
Canada's population increased 0.9% from July , 2014 to July 1 of 2015, the smallest increase since 1998/1999.
Of the population growth over that time span, 60.8% of it can be attributed to migration, while 39.2% is a natural increase.
Despite the small population increase on a national level, Canada's population growth is the highest among G7 countries.
Population levels only decreased in two provinces, New Brunswick and Newfoundland and Labrador.
