Caterpillar Closing London Locomotive Office

Caterpillar is closing its Wonderland Rd. office in London, laying off 50 people by the end of 2015.

In a statement, the company tells BlackburnNews.com "as part of the company’s continued cost reduction actions, Caterpillar’s Rail division will reduce its remaining London, Ontario workforce by approximately 50 positions. All remaining Electro-Motive Diesel employees in the London, Ontario area have been notified that their current office location is being consolidated with other facilities by the end of 2015."

The staff at the location reportedly includes the design engineers, locomotive testers and engineers. These are the people who the company kept after closing the Oxford St. E. factory in 2012.

About 450 people who worked at the locomotive plant were locked out in 2012 as the company tried to force a pay-cut on employees. A few months later, the plant was closed and the work was moved overseas.
