Train-Truck Crash Victim Identified

Provincial police in Lambton County have released the name of the man killed on Monday when a train slammed into the side of a truck near Bothwell.

Police say Michil Demaiter, 78, of Newbury was driving on Euphemia Ln. when he drove onto the tracks directly into the path of CP freight train. He was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Chatham-Kent Police and Canadian Pacific Police were initially dispatched to the scene along with firefighters and EMS. Lambton OPP took over the investigation since the point of impact happened in its jurisdiction.

The scene at Euphemia Line and Cairo Rd. was closed for several hours to allow for the investigation.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
