Update: Man Accidently Released Now Back In Police Custody

London police say a man who was mistakenly released from custody at the courthouse on Wednesday is now back in custody.

Raymond Versteeg, 28, turned himself in at the courthouse on Thursday morning. Constable Ken Steeves says Versteeg arrived at the courthouse for a previously scheduled appearance.

He was released from the Dundas St. courthouse around 3pm on Wednesday. An internal investigation in ongoing regarding the circumstances of the release by London police officers.

When police announced that he had been released, they advised the public not to approach Versteeg if he was seen. Police said, based on his criminal record, Versteeg posed a risk to public safety.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
