London Goodwill Unaffected By GTA Closures

On the heels of the sudden announced closings of several Goodwill locations in southern Ontario, officials are reassuring Londoners that the local Goodwill is on a path of "growth and prosperity."

Goodwill Industries, Ontario Great Lakes issued a statement on Monday stating the non-profit organization is not affected by the closure of 16 stores and 10 donation centres in the Greater Toronto Area, Barrie, Orillia, and Brockville.

Noting London's Goodwill Industries remains financially very strong, the statement from the Board of Directors says all operations continue to be open and business is operating as usual.

"We are confident that our Goodwill headquartered out of London, Ontario serving a vast geography of south western Ontario, and our international membership of Goodwills are not directly impacted."

The statement goes onto say "the Toronto Goodwill has been struggling financially over the course of the last number of years. Like all Goodwill organizations, the Toronto Goodwill is separately incorporated and governed by its own board of directors."

The Toronto Goodwill shuttered the stores Sunday, putting roughly 450 people out of work.
