Police: Stay Out Of Abandoned Buildings

Recent forays into the old London Psychiatric Hospital on Highbury Ave. by squatters and those who are just curious about the building's interior have prompted an advisory from London police.

In a release issued Thursday, police reminded the public that abandoned buildings that are falling apart are not safe places to explore.

"We go to abandoned buildings on a regular basis in regards to squatters and other individuals that are inside of those buildlings," says Constable Sandasha Bough. "We felt the need to remind everyone that it is unsafe. Not only that, it's against the law."

Bough says anyone trespassing in abandoned buildings is also running the risk of serious injury. She says a collapsing roof, broken glass, chemicals, and other harmful substances can lead to terrible outcomes for anyone who decides to explore an abandoned building.

Anyone who knows of anyone planning to enter an abandoned building is asked to call the London Police Service at (519) 661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
