Woman Dies After Vehicle Falls Into Ravine

A 79-year-old woman is dead after her vehicle left the roadway in Norfolk County and fell to the bottom of a ravine.

The Ontario Provincial Police say on Saturday around 10:48am, the woman was driving west on Front Rd. in Charlotteville, when she failed to navigate a turn and left the roadway. The vehicle entered the ravine and traveled 50 ft to the bottom before colliding with a tree. The vehicle then rolled before coming to a rest.

The 79-year-old woman from Norfolk County suffered life threatening injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity is being withheld pending the notification of the next of kin.

Front Rd. will remain closed until around 10pm while officers conduct an investigation.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
