DGR Project Near Kincardine Delayed Again

The environmental assessment for Ontario Power Generation's proposed Deep Geologic Repository Project for Low and Intermediate Level Radioactive Waste in Kincardine has been delayed again.

The federal Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Catherine McKenna, has requested more information and studies to be carried out.

She has asked OPG to provide alternate locations for the project, environment effects of the project and an updated list of 'mitigation commitments for each identified adverse effect under the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act, 2012.'

OPG has until April 18th to provide the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency with a schedule for completing the information and studies request.

Minister McKenna is expected to seek an additional timeline extension from the Governor in Council at a later date.
