Horses Killed In Fire

A barn fire in Oxford County has claimed the lives of nine horses.

Fire crews were called to Darkin Riding Stables on New Road near Otterville around 4:30am on Saturday after a blaze broke out in the stables. Firefighters from Norwich, Southwest Oxford, Otterville, and Burgessville fire departments responded to the scene, but they were unable to save the horses or the barn.

Officials say the fire does not appear to be suspicious in nature.

Darkin Riding Stables has announced there will be a memorial event for the horses this Thursday at the Bayham Family Table in Vienna from 3pm to 8:30pm. A GoFundMe page has also been set up to raise money to help rebuild the facilities.
