Woodstock Cop Charged With Sexual Assault

Sexual assault and voyeurism charges have been laid against a Woodstock police constable.

London police say they launched an investigation in early February after getting word that a Woodstock cop allegedly had a video that could be evidence of a criminal offence.

Police say charges were laid in the case after a search of an undisclosed location turned up a video.

"The reason that the the London Police Service conducted this investigation was because this individual resided in the city of London at the time that the alleged incidents took place," says Constable Sandasha Bough.

The alleged offences took place between 2009 and 2011 before the man became a police officer.

"We are not looking for any additional victims at this time," says Bough.

Robert Barber, 26, is charged with three counts of sexual assault, two counts of voyeurism, and one count of obstruction of justice.

Woodstock police Deputy Chief Darren Sweazey says Barber has been placed on administrative suspension with pay.

"The investigation and the allegations are very hard on the morale of the men and women of the Woodstock Police Service," says Sweazey. "I certainly don't want it to detract from the good work that the men and women of the Woodstock Police Service do on a daily basis."

Barber is scheduled to appear in court on March 22.
