A Woodstock manufacturing plant will be able to double its production thanks to a financial boost from the provincial government.
Education Minister Liz Sandals announced on Tuesday that Steel Technologies will get more than $855,000 from the Southwestern Ontario Development Fund.
The company will use the funds to build an additional 64,000 square feet onto its existing 80,000 square foot Woodstock facility. The move secures 75 jobs and creates another 15 positions at the plant.
"The expansion at the Woodstock facility will give us the footprint we require to install new equipment allowing Steel Technologies to process advanced lightweight materials to meet growing demand," says Mark Gemin, vice-president of Steel Technologies Canada Ltd.
Steel Technologies produces flat-rolled steel for the automotive, appliance, lawn and garden, agriculture, construction, office furniture, hardware, and consumer goods industries. The Woodstock plant specializes in precision slitting and distribution of high carbon and alloy flat-rolled steel.
The company anticipates its expansion will be completed by the end of 2018.
