Influenza Claims Three More Lives

The Middlesex-London Health Unit is reporting three more Influenza-related deaths in the community.

The health unit's weekly Influenza Surveillance Report says there were 40 new laboratory-confirmed cases of Influenza between March 20 and March 26. Ten of those people had to be hospitalized. The three deaths in Middlesex bring the total this flu season to nine.

According to the report, the number of new cases last week was lower than the previous week. Since September 1, there has been a total of 372 laboratory-confirmed cases of Influenza reported to the health unit.

There have been nine declared outbreaks in long-term care facilities, although none were reported last week.

Although the flu season seemed to get off to a slow start in our region, the number of cases has been steadily climbing since mid-February.
