OPP Identify Fatal Crash Victims

Middlesex OPP have released the names of the two women killed when a car and train collided near Melbourne.

Eunhwa Ahn, 39, and 37-year-old Gyujin Shon, both of Strathroy Caradoc were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash at the tracks on Melbourne Rd. near Glendon Dr. just after 10:30am Monday.

Police say a car, driven by Ahn, did not stop at the level rail crossing and was hit by the VIA Rain train, sending the car into the ditch where it came to rest approximately 100m from the initial impact site.

Of the approximately 80 passengers on board the train at the time, only one was injured. He was treated for minor injuries by paramedics at the scene.

Police say the rail crossing is controlled by lights but does not have crossing arms.

The Transportation Safety Board and OPP continue to investigate the crash.
