Truck Loses Wheels On 401

Luckily, they didn't hit any other vehicles.

Provincial police say two wheels came loose from a transport truck that was hauling garbage on Hwy. 401 near Putnam Rd. It happened in the eastbound lanes around 10:30am Wednesday.

One of the tires travelled about 60m before stopping in the south ditch. The other bounced across three lanes of the highway and came to rest against the median. There were no injuries.

But OPP Sergeant David Rektor says the outcome could have been much different.

"Had that tire struck somebody, they'd likely be injured or killed," he says in a video posted to Twitter.

In November, a Southwest Oxford Township woman was killed when her car was hit by a tire that had come loose from a transport truck on Hwy. 401 near Putnam Rd.

The Ministry of Transportation is investigating.
