Disobedient Motorists Force Windermere Rd. Closure

Motorists disobeying road signs has led to the closure of the Stoney Creek Bridge on Windermere Rd., west of Adelaide.

City staff, London police, and the contractors responsible for the restoration and widening project opted for the full closure of the bridge after a meeting on Wednesday. The group decided it was no longer safe to allow any through traffic as a result of motorists disobeying the previous partial closure.

Work began on the eastbound lane of the bridge April 26. During that time the westbound lane remained open to motorists. However, police say eastbound motorists blatantly chose to disregard the closure putting all other road users including cyclists, pedestrians, and construction workers at an incredible risk.

Police now warn they will be patrolling the area on a regular basis, issuing fines to any motorists caught violating the closure.

The fine for violating the bylaw is $180.

The closure will remain in effect until bridge work is completed this fall.
