Surgeries Postponed Due To Burst Pipe

A burst water pipe at Victoria Hospital forced surgery delays and cancellations Wednesday.

The pipe burst outside of the operating rooms in a lounge area on the second floor of the hospital around 9am. No surgeries were underway at the time.

Maintenance crews quickly fixed the pipe and mopped up the water, allowing surgeries to resume early in the afternoon.

Mary Gillet, director of communications for the London Health Sciences Centre, says the exact number of surgeries that will be postponed remains to be seen.

"They're anticipating there might be 14 cancelled," says Gillet. "They could fit a couple more in but they won't know until the end of the day the final number of cancellations."

Gillet says the hospital will work hard to re-schedule the cancelled surgeries as soon as possible.
