Skateboarder Hit By Vehicle

St. Thomas police say it's fortunate injuries were not more severe after a man on a skateboard was hit by a vehicle.

A 26-year-old man was riding his skateboard on the sidewalk along Talbot St. at Princess St. around 3:50pm on Wednesday. Police say the man failed to stop for a red light when he came to the intersection and was hit by a southbound vehicle.

The man was taken to hospital for minor injuries and has since been released.

He is charged under a city by-law that prohibits the use of skateboards on sidewalks or roadway without care and attention or reasonable consideration for others.

Police are reminding the public that sidewalks are for pedestrian use only and that stopping for red traffic lights is mandatory. They say failing to do so can have serious consequences.
