Man Disarms Cop With Taser

One man is facing charges after a confrontation with St. Thomas police led to an officer being disarmed of a Taser.

Police were called to a report of an “out of control” man in St. Thomas Tuesday night. Upon arriving on scene, the officer responding to the call witnessed a man pick up a cement bench and throw it at a nearby residence.

After striking the officer with a 20 ft. metal pole taken from the residence, the man charged, grappling for control of the officer’s Taser. The man successfully took the weapon and fired at the officer, but missed his shot.

The officer was able to regain control of the Taser, and subdue the man.

A 22-year-old man is now charged with mischief under $5,000, assaulting a police officer, and disarming a police officer. He is being held awaiting a bail hearing.
