Trucker Charged In Fatal Belmont-Area Crash

Months after a 38-year-old Aylmer man was killed in a crash involving a transport truck near Belmont, OPP say charges have been laid.

The charges stem from the April 22 crash on Belmont Rd. at Yorke Line.

Police say a tractor-trailer clipped a Jeep while turning onto the roadway around 6:45am. The Jeep rolled onto its driver's side before being hit by a pick-up truck in the oncoming lane.

Michael Wodzinski of Aylmer was pronounced dead at the scene. The male driver of the pick-up was taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The transport driver, a 65-year-old Thames Centre man, has now been charged with failure to yield to traffic, failure to surrender completed daily inspection report, overweight vehicle, and overweight axles.

He will appear in St. Thomas court on July 14.
