Heat Warning Issued For London

With two days of scorching temperatures ahead, Environment Canada has issue a heat warning for much of southwestern Ontario, including London-Middlesex.

The national weather agency says temperatures near 31 C are expected Wednesday and Thursday, with little relief overnight as low dip only slightly to 20 C.

The warning was issued Tuesday for London-Middlesex, Elgin, Oxford-Brant, Windsor-Essex, Chatham-Kent, and Sarnia-Lambton.

The extreme heat will pose greatest risk for the elderly, infants and small children, people with chronic illnesses such as breathing difficulties, heart conditions or psychiatric illnesses, the homeless, and those without air conditioning.

Residents in areas under a heat warning are advised to drink plenty of fluids, especially water to prevent dehydration.

Conditions are expected to cool slightly by Friday with highs at or below 27 C forecast for Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
