London's Unemployment Rate Rises

June proved to be a rough month for those looking for work in the London-St. Thomas area.

The London-St. Thomas unemployment rate climbed back up to 7.3% last month, following a minor drop to 7% in May.

Figures from Statistics Canada show the local labour force shrunk by 1,300 in June while the number of people employed dropped by 1,700.

Nationally, there was a slight decline in the jobless rate as 700 jobs were lost. Canada's unemployment rate fell to 6.8% in June from 6.9% in May.

Provincially, the jobless rate dropped to 6.4% in June from 6.6% the previous month. The decline was attributed to a drop in the labour force.
