Flying Tire Causes Crash On Hwy. 401

Charges are pending after a tire flew off of a trailer, causing a crash on Hwy. 401 in London.

Middlesex OPP say a pickup truck was towing a flatbed trailer loaded with a scissor lift in the westbound lanes, west of Old Victoria Rd. around 6:55am on Thursday when the front driver's side wheel of the trailer popped off.

The tire bounced over the median into the eastbound lanes where a car swerved to avoid it, then spun out on wet pavement before hitting a transport truck.

The driver of the car, a 32-year-old London man, was taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries. No one else was hurt in the incident.

OPP say the investigation is on-going.
