OPP Crackdown On Distracted Driving In Ingersoll

Motorists in Ingersoll don't appear to be getting the message about distracted driving.

Oxford OPP say officers have noticed a high number of drivers on their cell phones in the town over the last few weeks. That prompted a crackdown by foot patrol officers in the main core last week, resulting in 17 distracted driving charges being laid.

The charge comes with a fine of $490.

Charges were also laid against seven motorists for disobeying signs.

With the Civic long weekend about to begin, police are reminding drivers to put cell phones away and concentrate on the road. Police say they will be out all weekend long monitoring the “Big 4” driving behaviours; impaired driving, speeding, distracted driving, and seatbelt usage.
