Man Charged With Assaulting London Police Officer

The discovery of a stolen vehicle has led to several charges against a London man, including assaulting a police officer.

London police say they saw a stolen minivan with two different licence plates heading east of Thompson Ave. near Adelaide St. around 10:45am Wednesday. The driver pulled into a parking lot off King Edward Ave., where an officer tried to place him under arrest.

According to police, the man is alleged to have resisted arrest and assaulted the officer.

Sean Carter, 29, is charged with:

  • Theft of a motor vehicle
  • Possession of property obtained by crime exceeding $5,000
  • Mischief causing property damage not exceeding $5,000
  • Theft not exceeding $5,000
  • Two counts of possession of property obtained by crime not exceeding $5,000
  • Escaping lawfully custody
  • Resisting arrest
  • Assaulting police
Police say the officer suffered a broken finger.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
