UPDATE: Environment Canada has lifted the Severe Thunderstorm Watch as of 2:45pm.

The London area could see severe thunderstorms on Friday.

Environment Canada issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch on Friday afternoon. The weather agency says conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms as a cooler air mass moves into a region that has been blanketed by hot and humid weather for days.

Forecasters says severe storms can cause wind gusts that can cause damage, as well as rainfall amounts that can cause flooding and pooled water on roadways.

Environment Canada reminds people that when severe weather approaches, it is best to go indoors.

The Severe Thunderstorm Watch also covers Elgin, Oxford, Lambton, and Chatham-Kent.
