London Man Charged After Eight Vehicle Crash

Charges have been laid in connection with a multi-vehicle crash that sent five people to hospital and closed a section of Hwy. 401 east of London Monday afternoon.

Middlesex OPP say eight vehicles, including a tractor trailer, collided in the westbound lanes of the highway near Dorchester Rd. just before 5:20pm. A pickup truck struck a car in the fast lane as the car tried to merge due to lane restrictions from nearby construction. The crash caused six other vehicles to collide.

The 21-year-old London man driving the pickup truck and the driver of the car, a 65-year-old London man, suffered non-life threatening injuries. A 22-year-old woman, a 57-year-old woman, and a 66-year-old man from Michigan were also taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. They were inside one of the six other vehicles involved.

The pickup driver is charged with careless driving.

The westbound lanes of the busy highway were closed for roughly two hours. They reopened around 7:30pm.
