Local Realtors Have Record Month

It wasn't just the weather that was hot in August.

The real estate market in the London area continued to be hot with 999 homes changing hands in August, according to the London and St. Thomas Association of Realtors (LSTAR). That made it the best August on record for LSTAR as 804 detached homes and 195 condos were sold.

"This has been an absolutely outstanding year for real estate in our area," says Stacey Evoy, LSTAR president, in a news release. "We've seen the best April ever, the best June ever and now the best August ever – all in 2016."

Sales are up 9.1% so far this year compared to last year.

The number of homes available for sale, though, is down more than 29%.

"Supply continues tight and demand high," says Evoy. "If you're thinking of listing your home, consider the fall market."

So far this year, the average price of all homes sold in the London-St. Thomas area is $277,326. That's up 4.8% from last year.
