Stratford Cyclist Badly Injured in Perth East Hit-and-Run

A cyclist was seriously injured Monday evening in a hit-and-run incident in Perth East.  It happened around 7:15pm on Hwy. 7/8 between Stratford and Shakespeare.

Police report that a 22-year-old Stratford man was on riding a racing bike in the west bound lane of Hwy. 7/8 when the passenger side mirror of a dark-coloured older model pickup truck or SUV hit him.

He was thrown several metres into the north ditch.  He remains in hospital with what are described as 'major injuries'.   Police say he was wearing a helmet.

The vehicle did not stop.   The passenger side mirror of the vehicle was recovered by police at the scene, and appears to have come off an older model GMC Sonoma, GMC Jimmy, GMC Envoy or a Chevy Blazer.

The involved motorist is asked to contact the Perth County OPP immediately at 1-888-310-1122.

Anyone who may have witnessed this collision or who has information about this dark coloured vehicle without a passenger side mirror is asked to contact the Perth County OPP.
