Western Gets $45M For New Buildings

The federal and Ontario governments are sending $45-million to Western University to help it construct two new buildings.

The money, announced Friday by London North Centre MP Peter Fragiskatos, will go toward construction of the Western Interdisciplinary Research Building and The Three C+ Innovation Centre. The university is also providing $45-million for consruction.

“We are grateful to the federal government for this significant investment in university infrastructure," says Western president Amit Chakma. "It recognizes Western University’s unique strengths in interdisciplinary research and expands our capacity to educate the engineers of tomorrow.”

According to a release from Western, the WIRB will "be home to the University's first multi-disciplinary Cluster of Research Excellence – the Cognitive Neuroscience (CNS) which will include the Brain & Mind Institute and the Rotman Institute of Philosophy."

The university says the Three C+ Innovation Centre will "foster innovation, discovery, and reflection – and the sharing of ideas between researchers and students and between Engineering, Business, and other disciplines."

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
