Charges Laid In Fatal Motorcycle Crash

An 18-year-old woman is now charged under the Highway Traffic Act after a motorcyclist was killed in a crash last month.

John Masales, 41, of Malahide Township was pronounced dead at the scene after his northbound motorcycle collided with a westbound van on Richmond Rd. at Vienna Line east of St. Thomas just after 8:30pm on September 18.

Elgin OPP say a passenger on the motorcycle, a 37-year-old man from Malahide Township, is still in hospital in serious condition after suffering life threatening injuries in the collision.

The 18-year-old driver of the van and three teenage female passengers were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

On Friday, police announced Sara Hildebrant-Bueckert was charged with failing to yield on a through highway and with being a Class G1 licence holder unaccompanied by a qualified driver.

It's alleged she stopped at the stop sign, then proceeded into the intersection and into the path of the motorcycle.
