Fake Kidnapping Report Leads To Mischief Charge

A teenager is facing a mischief charge after police say he lied about being kidnapped.

It turns out, he was just mad about his parents not letting him go to a friend's house. Elgin OPP say they got a 911 call from the teen on Saturday, saying he had been kidnapped by two people and was in the back of an SUV travelling on Hwy. 401.

Police later found the SUV and spoke to everyone inside. That's when they determined there had been no abduction.

St. Thomas-Elgin EMS was called to the scene after the teen started hyper-ventilating. Once he was cleared by EMS he was charged with public mischief.
