UPDATE: Body Of Missing Canoeist Found

The body of a 19-year-old Simcoe man has been pulled from Westminster Ponds, a day after his canoe tipped sending him into the water.

London police using a boat and what appeared to be sonar were on the pond in the area of Pondmills Rd. near Southdale Rd. on Monday. An OPP dive team was also in the water, while officers combed the shoreline on foot.

Police say the man's body was found around 1:55pm.

The man was with two friends on the water when the canoe they were in overturned around 3am Sunday. The two other people, a man and a woman, were able to make it back to shore. Police have said all three were not wearing life jackets at the time.

The family of the missing 19-year-old man stood along Pondmills Rd. watching the search unfold while consoling each other.

The name of the man has not been released.

Police say additional information may be released at a later time.
