Impaired Driving Charges Laid In Fatal Crash

London police are alleging that the driver that survived a head-on crash in the north-end was drunk at the wheel.

Emergency crews were called to Richmond St. and Sunningdale Rd. around 3am after two vehicles collided head-on.

The female driver of one of the vehicles was pronounced dead at the scene. The other driver, a 23-year-old man, was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He was taken into police custody following his release from hospital.

The man is now charged with impaired operation of a vehicle causing death, driving with more than 80mgs of alcohol in blood causing death, and dangerous operation of a vehicle. Police have not yet released his name.

The name and age of the deceased woman have not been released.

Richmond St. was closed in both directions for several hours. It has since been re-opened. Sunningdale Rd., east of Richmond remains closed.

The Traffic Management Unit is continuing to investigate the collision. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call police at 519-661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
