One Dead In Woodstock Apartment Fire

One person is dead after a fire in a Woodstock apartment building.

Police and fire crews were called to a three-storey building at 361 Devonshire Ave. around 10pm Tuesday. Fire had broken out in one of the 24 units and smoke filled the hallways.

Firefighters were able to get tenants out of the building quickly. They were sheltered in a Woodstock transit bus. However, during their search of the building, firefighters found the body of one person.

Crews were able to contain the fire to a single unit, although several units did suffer smoke damage. After a few hours, most residents were able to return to their apartments.

The Ontario Fire Marshall's Office and the Woodstock police Criminal Investigations Unit are probing the cause of the blaze.
