Man Injured During House Fire

A 47-year-old man has been taken to hospital following a basement fire in London.

The London Fire Department responded blaze at a home on Alanbrook St., on Monday around 10:43am. Fire crews were able to contain the blaze to a basement utility room and an exterior basement stairway. However, the rest of the home sustained smoke damage.

Upon arrival, fire crews saw a man attempting to remove items from the burning home and, as a result, he suffered second degree burns to his hands and one foot. The man was taken to hospital by EMS to be treated for his burns and for smoke inhalation.

Fire officials say a dog and cat were rescued from the home as well.

Damage to the home is estimated at around $40 000 and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
