Child Luring Incident In Listowel

Perth County OPP say an 11-year-old girl was approached by a stranger offering candy in Listowel on Monday.

Police say the child was walking home from school near Nichol Ave. South and Main St. East.  A white van pulled up alongside her and a passenger opened the side door, and offered her candy to go for a ride with him. The girl refused, kept her distance, and ran home.

Police are looking for a Caucasian male, possible in his 30s, with a brown beard. He was wearing a black ski mask, black hat, black coat, black snow pants and black mitts and boots.

The van is possibly an older model Ford Econoline, or similar vehicle, with scratches and rust spots on the passenger door, and large side mirrors.

The OPP reminds all members of the public to be aware of their personal safety at all times and to be extremely vigilant when approached by unknown individuals. Parents and caregivers of young children should have a discussion with their child about “Stranger Safety” and what to do if confronted by a stranger.

If you can help police identify the suspects or the suspect vehicle involved in this incident please call Perth County OPP at 1-888-310-1122 with your information. Should you wish to remain anonymous, you may call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), and you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.
