City's Fifth Homicide Victim Died From Gunshot Wound

London police have confirmed a 26-year-old man found dead in an east-end apartment building was fatally shot.

An autopsy completed on Thursday found Emmanuel Awai of London died from a gunshot wound.

Awai was found unresponsive by police in his second floor unit in a three-storey walk-up at 135 Connaught Ave. around 10:20pm on Wednesday. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have not yet made an arrest in the homicide and are not commenting on whether or not a weapon has been recovered.

Officers spent Wednesday night, and much of Thursday canvassing neighbours, searching dumpsters and looking under parked vehicles outside of the building. An officer was stationed in the hallway outside of the unit where the shooting took place.

The police major crimes sections is continuing to investigate the shooting, the city's fifth homicide of the year.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
