The population in the London area keeps growing, but at a lower rate than the national one.
Census data released Wednesday by Statistics Canada shows the population of the London Census Metropolitan Area was 494,069 in 2016, up from 474,786 in 2011.
The London CMA includes London, St. Thomas, Strathroy-Caradoc, Middlesex Centre, Thames Centre, Central Elgin, Southwold, and Adelaide Metcalfe.
According to Statistics Canada, the population of the City of London in 2016 was 383,822. In 2011, it was 366,151. The growth rate for the London CMA between 2011 and 2016 was 4.1%.
Nationally, Canada’s population rose an even 5% — going from 33,476,688 in 2011 to 35,151,728 in 2016.
Nunavut had the highest growth rate of any of the provinces or territories (+12.7%) while Alberta was close behind (+11.6%).
