London police say there's been an increase in attempts to pass counterfeit money in the city.
Earlier this week, the OPP said they had investigated six incidents of suspected counterfeit money being passed at commercial businesses in Thames Centre, North Middlesex, Southwest Middlesex, and Lucan Biddulph. Police seized phoney Canadian $100 and $50 bills and American $20 bills.
London police say the fake bills they are hearing about most are $100 and $50 bills that mimic the "Scenes of Canada" bills that were in circulation between 1969 and 1979.
Police say businesses should be suspicious of anyone trying to use a "Scenes of Canada" bill, since they are no longer in circulation.
Anyone with information regarding attempts to use counterfeit money is asked to call London police at (519) 661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Information can also be sent in on-line anonymously to www.londoncrimestoppers.com.
