Roadside Fight Leads To Drunk Driving Charge

A 24-year-old Sparta man is facing drunk driving charges after a roadside fight caught the attention of St. Thomas police.

Officers were on their way to a disturbance call at a gas station early Thursday morning when they spotted a vehicle at the side of the road in the area of Burwell Rd. and Greenway Blvd. Police say two men were seen rolling around on the ground in an alcohol-fueled fight beside the vehicle.

After breaking up the confrontation, police determined the pair, who are known to each other, were also the ones involved in the gas station disturbance. One of the men allegedly admitted to driving the vehicle from the gas station. He was arrested and taken for a breathalyzer test, which showed he had twice the legal limit of alcohol in his system.

A 24-year-old man from Sparta is charged with driving with more than 80mgs of alcohol in 100ml of blood and operating a motor vehicle with open alcohol.
