SIU Probing Police Dog Bite

The Special Investigations Unit has been called in after a 30-year-old man was bitten by a provincial police dog in Strathroy-Caradoc.

OPP were investigating a break and enter in the area of Egremont Dr. and Centre Rd. around 4am on Thursday. While officers were arresting a male suspect after finding him in a nearby field, a police dog bit the man.

He was taken to hospital for treatment of the bite. A 29-year-old Sarnia man is charged with break and enter and possession of stolen property.

The province's police watchdog has sent three investigators and one forensic investigator to look into the matter.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529. Video evidence related to this incident can be uploaded through the SIU website.

The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
