Smokey Renos Prompt Fire Call

There was smoke, but no fire, as renovations at a soon to open business in the downtown prompted a visit from firefighters.

London firefighters were called to 484 Richmond St., at Dufferin Ave. around 11am on Monday after smoke began pouring into Stobies Pizza. Firefighters arrived on scene and determined the smoke was coming from Roli Poli, a new ice cream shop set to open later this month.

"It turned out just to be work being done in a neighbouring unit, welding. There was no fire, just smoke," said Fire Captain Kevin Culbertson.

No one was injured and there were no damages reported.

Northbound traffic on Richmond St. experienced slowdowns for roughly 45 minutes.
